NEW INTERNSHIP

NEW INTERNSHIP

By rtp904

My new internship is pretty awesome. I’m an intern for the City of Jacksonville working with the Photographer for the city. I have a computer and desk set up in City Hall! It’s pretty surreal yet well deserved at the same time.

The photographer for the city goes to my church. We’re both on the photography team. I got the ‘divine hook up’ ;)

My first job was taking pictures at the Enviromental Department meeting. They discussed the budget and I took pictures. I wasn’t really there for the meeting but Jeannie Blaylock from the local news came in mid-meeting. Now mind you, in this meeting room there was a string of dollars all around the room. This was money raised for breast cancer. The total was $1100 dollars!! When Jeannie came in and was announced all of the city workers held up the dollars collected and it was a neat moment. I’m snapping away as this happened.

Jeannie Blaylock is an advocate for Breast Cancer Prevention and discussed something called Buddy Check 12 (12 for the local channel that she broadcasts for). She played 2 videos that gave Breast Cancer awareness. One was a touching video that just reminds you of the women in your life that you love.

The other video was sad. A woman found a lump the size of a marble (probably smaller). But, because she was so busy maintaining her family she never told a soul, not even her husband. She went to bed after the lights were off and changed in the dark as well. Months went by and her breast cancer became malilgnant. There was a graphic section of the video that showed the woman breast and it was horrific. It was overall very sad and the family was in mourning. Ultimately, this video made you think of the women in your life that you love in a way that urges you to promote awareness.

My contact and I then walked down a couple of blocks downtown to another building where the city workers actually work. They have a milk jug decorated in pink party streamers with eyes to make it look like a pig. A slit was cut in the top so it is a pink piggy bank that was for Breast Cancer Awareness Donations.

I went back to my desk. Uploaded the images. Edited the all in Photoshop. Burn them to a disc. My sponsor came in at that point coming back from a similar job out at Cecil Field. Gave him the disc. Filled out my time sheet and left to meet my buddy Eli for a business lunch to discuss starting a blog.

So here I am.

This is the beginning of a beautiful relationship with you.

Have a good one.

Reg.
